Nicola studies commerce in China

A 27-year-old student from Mopani TVET College at the Phalaborwa campus has embarked on a new and exciting challenge in China.

Nicola Mafomo will be studying cross-border commerce at the Hangzhou Polytechnic Institution for a year. Born and bred in Ndhambi village outside Giyani, the young man says he is excited about the new challenge and wants to represent his college and family well. “I thank God for the opportunity, and I will use it to the best of my ability.

Although I’m not sure if I will enjoy Chinese food and I don’t know much about their culture, I’m ready for a new challenge.” Mafomo attended Dzumeri Primary School and Nghonyama High School where he matriculated in 2015. In January 2016 he registered for financial management, N4 to N6, which he completed in July of 2017.

From January 2018 to July 2019, he did his experiential learning at the Department of Basic Education’s Mopani East District offices. In 2022 he graduated with a national diploma in financial management, and he is currently doing a BCom in financial management. Mopani TVET College spokesperson, Given Sebashe, said they wish him well and are confident that he will represent the institution well in China.

Emelda Tintswalo Shipalana

Tintswalo Shipalana, a journalist for the Letaba Herald, has been in the media industry for over a decade. She started her journey in radio, but ended up in print which is her first love.
