Tzaneen couple hijacked in mall parking area

A Tzaneen couple was hijacked in the parking area of Tzaneen Crossing Mall on Friday evening, May 31.

According to Brig Hlulani Mashana, provincial spokesperson, the victim and his wife were in their white Chevrolet Sonic when they were approached by two men posing as policemen and directed him to sit in the back seat. One of the men had a firearm and informed him that they were taking them to the police station.

They drove with the victims on the R36 to Bindzulani Cross in Nkowankowa where they stopped at the car wash. The victim was instructed to transfer money from his bank account, but he refused. The suspects drove with them to Mokgoloboto village, near the graveyard.

The victim noticed that another car was following them and grabbed the steering wheel, causing the car to lose control, and the driver had to stop.

The suspects assaulted the victims and drove off with their car leaving them stranded. They took his bag containing cash, the wife’s passport, his ID book, and two cellphones.Police are appealing to anyone with information to contact Sgt Gift Machete at 083 542 0788, the crime stop number 08600 10111, visit the nearest police station or share information on MySAPSApp.
