LIMPOPO – Fifteen talented u/13 to u/17 soccer players have successfully qualified to enrol at the prestigious Kagiso Sports School of Excellence in Kempton Park, Gauteng, starting in January next year.

This exciting opportunity comes after rigorous trials held at the Giyani Section-E at ADS Sports Ground in collaboration between the Kagiso Sports School of Excellence and Sekhukhune United FC.

The trials were a platform for aspiring young footballers to showcase their skills, and these 15 players stood out for their exceptional talent and potential. Their upcoming enrolment at the

Kagiso Sports School of Excellence represents a significant step forward in their football careers.

According to Gezani Mashaba, one of the coordinators of the trials, the opportunity will expose them to high-level coaching, educational support, and an opportunity to develop their skills in a structured environment further. “Sekhukhune FC will absorb some of them depending on how they perform in the field once in Joburg,” he said.

This achievement also highlights the increasing emphasis on youth development in sports, particularly in areas such as Giyani, where local talent is being identified and given opportunities to shine.

It underscores the commitment of individuals like Gezani Mashaba to invest in the future of South African football by identifying young players at an early age and providing them with platforms to showcase their talent.

These opportunities allow players to be seen by scouts who can help them advance their football careers and open doors to further development and professional prospects.

Mashaba creates pathways for these young athletes to receive professional coaching and a solid education.

“Our focus is on nurturing young talent, which, in turn, strengthens the broader sporting landscape of the country. These players could one day represent their provinces, national teams, or even pursue professional careers,” he said.

Mashaba emphasised the importance of parents supporting their children in football to ensure the long-term sustainability and success of their careers, both at the local and national levels.

“Parents shouldn’t hesitate to support their children because only God knows where they will end up. For some, football is their only chance, but you’ll never know if you don’t support them,” he said.
