Talana Hostel: Dwellers receive new houses

Cogstha MEC Basikopo Makamu announces Talana Hostel dwellers will receive new houses with 126 units to be built in Tzaneen Extension 105.

TZANEEN- Talana Hostel dwellers will be relieved to learn that they will be getting new houses.

This announcement was made by Cooperative Governance, Human Settlement and Traditional Authority (Cogstha) MEC Basikopo Makamu on Tuesday morning at the Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM) Chambers.

The houses are part of Cogstha’s Community Residential Units (CRU) initiative, aimed at providing housing to people willing to pay monthly rent.

The 126 units will range from one to two bedrooms, each featuring kitchens, sitting rooms, and bathrooms.

Makamu stated that the contractor for the project will be announced no later than February 17 next year.

The houses will be built in a new township, Tzaneen Extension 105, which was approved by the council two years ago.

The township will span from where the current hostels are located to the former McDonald Fruit and Vegetable shop on the R36 road to Mokgolobotho.

The GTM is currently working on bulk services, and by next year, they will start with reticulation work.

Additionally, Makamu handed over the Dan village sewer project to the GTM and the Mopani District Municipality.

The sewer project will be renovated after substandard work in 2012 left residents dealing with sewage flowing through the streets for years.

Cogstha has appointed Sizeya Consulting Engineers as a professional service provider with a budget of over R3 million to conduct an assessment of the work needed to be done.
