Mopani District wins top communication accolades

Mopani District Municipality’s communications team is recognised as the most proactive and responsive in South Africa.

LIMPOPO – The South African Local Government Association (Salga) has named Mopani District Municipality’s (MDM) communications team as the most proactive and responsive district communications team in South Africa.

Competing against the West Coast Municipality from the Western Cape and Ngaka Modiri Molema from the Northwest, MDM emerged as the top contender.

The communications unit also secured an award for being the most active on social media, surpassing competition from the Garden Route Municipality in the Western Cape and Enhlanzeni Municipality in Mpumalanga.

The accolades were presented during the 8th National Communications Forum held in Jeffrey’s Bay, Eastern Cape.

MDM’s head of communications, Odas Ngobeni, expressed immense pride in his team’s achievements. “It is a big recognition for us. It just shows that hard work pays. We are a small team in a rural district with a limited budget, yet we can compete with municipalities that have significantly larger resources for communication,” he said.

Ngobeni attributed their success to a highly motivated and passionate team, as well as the unwavering support from the municipality’s leadership and management. “We are always ready to serve the communication needs of the people in the district and provide the necessary support to the media,” he concluded.
