Elderly Mopani couple found murdered

Police in Mokwakwaila are investigating a house robbery and double murder of an elderly couple, with a manhunt for the suspects underway.

LIMPOPO – Mokwakwaila SAPS, under the Mopani District, has launched an investigation into a case of house robbery and double murder following the deaths of an elderly couple in Ga-Kuranta village.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba says authorities were alerted to the crime on the evening of Tuesday, March 18. Police responded to a murder complaint and arrived at the scene, where they were informed of two lifeless bodies found in separate rooms within the residence.

“Upon entering the house, officers discovered an 83-year-old male victim, identified as Malekutu Alfred Mokhupi, tied with a rope around his neck while seated on the floor. In another room, they found an 80-year-old female victim, identified as Maphetola Selaelo Rasodi, also tied with a rope around her neck and lying on her back.”

The ropes binding both victims were reportedly fastened to the roof.

EMS personnel were called to the scene and declared both individuals deceased upon arrival.

Authorities noted that the bodies had no visible injuries. The couple also had their mobile phones stolen during the incident says Mashaba.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and SAPS has since launched a manhunt for the unknown suspects. Investigators are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in the case.
