Lowveld Academy learners excel at Eisteddfod

Lowveld Academy learners shone at the Hoedspruit Eisteddfod, earning top awards in poetry, prose, spoken word, and choral verse.

LIMPOPO – Lowveld Academy (LA) Hoedspruit Secondary learners participated in the Hoedspruit Eisteddfod, which took place from May 19 to May 23.

LA entered into the categories of formal poetry, dramatised poetry, spoken word, dramatised prose, impromptu section and choral verses. Adjudicator Christo Potgieter gave the learners useful and great feedback.

“We are extremely proud of our learners and thankful for this opportunity they had,” said Tilana Harding of LA.

Notable achievements:

• Gr 8 and Gr 9 each received diamond awards for their entries into the choral verses category.
• The LA Primary entry in the choral verse category also received a diamond award.
• Millicent Kupunza in Gr 12 received one diamond and three platinum awards for spoken words, dramatised prose and monologue.
• Palesa Manamela in Gr 12 received one diamond and two platinum awards for spoken word, duologue and spoken word duo.
• Nsovo Tivane in Gr 12 received three platinum awards for spoken word, duologue and spoken word duo.
• Elene Stephens in Gr 11 received one diamond, two double gold and one gold award for her formal and dramatised poetry and her impromptu reading.
• Jessica Theko, in Gr 11 received a diamond award for her formal poetry.

LA’s results are as follows:

• Diamond (95%-100%) – 4
• Platinum (90%-94%) – 8
• Double gold (85%-89%) – 5
• Gold (80%-84%) – 3
• Double silver (75%-79%) – 1
• Bronze (65%-69%) – 1
• Gr 8 choral verse received a diamond with 98%.
• Gr 9 choral verse received a diamond with 96%.

“We, as LA, are thankful to the Hoedspruit Eisteddfod for the opportunity they have provided our learners to show their talents,” she concluded.
