The Greater Tzaneen Municipality demolishes houses in Mokgolobotho built on land not approved for settlement.
TZANEEN – The Greater Tzaneen Municipality has demolished houses built illegally on vacant land in Mokgolobotho, outside Tzaneen, after repeated warnings to residents.
The municipality said the land has not been approved for residential use, and despite years of warnings, some residents continued to erect houses.
Officials moved in and demolished all the structures on the site yesterday (September 15), following repeated attempts to prevent further illegal occupation of the land, which is not zoned or serviced for residential purposes.
The Herald understands that the matter has sparked frustration among affected residents, while the municipality insists the action was necessary to uphold land use regulations.
This is a developing story.
The Herald will provide updates as more information becomes available.
