Stanford Lake coach shines with top rugby honours
Stanford Lake College’s Neil Haarhoff earns Referee of the Year and international recognition for officiating a Kenya fixture.
TZANEEN – Stanford Lake College’s (SLC) adventure coach and long-time rugby stalwart, Neil Haarhoff, has capped off an exceptional season with two major accolades that have earned him widespread recognition in provincial and international rugby circles.
Haarhoff was recently named the first League Referee of the Year, a title reserved for officials who demonstrate outstanding consistency, fairness, and deep understanding of the game.
The award highlights his growing influence and respect within the refereeing community.
In addition to this honour, Haarhoff also received special recognition for officiating an international fixture between the Limpopo amateur side and the Kenya national team, a significant milestone in any referee’s career.
Colleagues at SLC describe Haarhoff as dedicated, humble, and committed to the development of young athletes.
“Whether guiding learners through outdoor challenges or standing centre-field with whistle in hand, Haarhoff is known for leading by example. His achievements this season have not only brought pride to the school but have also cemented his reputation as a respected figure in South African rugby,” said SLC’s Caryn Rathmann.
