PHALABORWA – Three promising players from Phalaborwa Rugby Club (PRC) have taken a significant step towards achieving their rugby dreams after being selected for the Limpopo Blue Bulls u/21 training camp.
Dehan Peach (19), Kenny Moreku (19) and Jabulani Shayi (21) impressed selectors during the recent Limpopo Blue Bulls u/21 trials and will attend the training camp this coming weekend, where they will continue competing for a place in the provincial squad.
Small-town pride on a bigger stage
Ruben Coetzer of PRC said the selections are a testament to the players’ dedication and the hard work they have invested throughout the season.
“We are incredibly proud of Dehan, Kenny and Jabulani. They have worked tirelessly and have shown commitment every step of the way. It is rewarding to see youngsters from our club, and especially from a small town like Phalaborwa, earn opportunities to showcase their talents on a bigger stage. They have our full support, and I’m confident the entire Phalaborwa community is behind them as they continue this journey,” said Coetzer.
Players reflect on the call-up
For Moreku, receiving the call-up exceeded his expectations.
“I’m feeling good, truly blessed. To be in the u/21 setup at just 19 is something I never expected,” he said.
Peach, who has set his sights on advancing his rugby career, said the selection validates the effort he has put into the sport.
“I’m very happy about it because it’s what I’ve been working for, to keep progressing and take my rugby career to greater heights,” he said.
Shayi described the opportunity as the beginning of an exciting new chapter.
“I’m excited. It’s the start of a journey and a big opportunity for me. Being selected for the u/21 team is the result of the hard work and dedication I’ve put in every week, every practice and every game,” he said.
