Heavy rains disrupt health services in Limpopo clinics
Flooding and damaged roads have left several clinics in Mopani and Vhembe districts inaccessible, impacting emergency services.
LIMPOPO – The Limpopo Department of Health has announced significant disruptions to services in the Mopani and Vhembe districts due to ongoing heavy rainfall and flooding.
The department reported that flooding and damaged infrastructure have severely restricted access to several clinics.
Facilities currently affected and partially or fully inaccessible include Tswinga, De Hoop, Duvhuledza, and Tshipise clinics.
Eroded roads and washed-away bridges are preventing both healthcare workers and community members from reaching the sites.
The situation is also impacting Emergency Medical Services (EMS), with some villages becoming unreachable for emergency responses.
Additionally, power outages caused by damaged electricity infrastructure are further hindering service delivery at some health centres.
Department spokesperson Neil Shikwambana stated that district management teams are working with local municipalities and disaster management to assess and mitigate the impact.
The department is appealing to residents in affected areas to avoid flooded routes and follow instructions from local authorities.
