Lulekani Circuit achieves 95.6% matric pass rate

The Lulekani Circuit's matric class improved its pass rate to 95.6%, with four schools achieving a perfect 100%.

PHALABORWA – The Lulekani Circuit Class of 2025 has achieved an impressive 95.6% matric pass rate, marking an improvement of 1.3% from the Class of 2024, which recorded a 94.3% pass rate.

Circuit manager Eunice Ntsanwisi told the Herald that she was overjoyed by the results and thanked God for the achievement.

Several schools recorded outstanding performances, with Nkateko High School in Lulekani township, Prieska Combined School, Makikele High School, and Masaswivona Secondary School in Ga-Selwane each achieving a 100% pass rate.

All Saints College narrowly missed the perfect mark after obtaining a 99.37% pass rate. Majeje High School followed with 98.41%, while Frans du Toit recorded a 94.7% pass rate.

Meridian Combined College trailed slightly behind at 93.18%, while Ntshuxeko Secondary School achieved 91.24%. Although Baranuka Secondary School ranked ninth and last in the circuit with a 90.83% pass rate, the school showed remarkable improvement from its 86.48% result in 2024.

This performance marks a dramatic turnaround for Baranuka Secondary School, which had previously been labelled an underperforming school after posting a dismal 28.9% pass rate in 2022, followed by an improved 56.04% in 2023. The school’s transformation has drawn widespread praise, with stakeholders describing the progress as historic.

Baranuka High School principal Nkhensani Mahlaule said the 90% pass rate was a major achievement for both the school and the surrounding community.

“This kind of pass rate is a great feeling. We see the hand of God in the school. I have a strong and dedicated team of teachers. Last year, we held two study camps, including weekend camps for the trial examinations and a full-time camp for the final exams,” she said.

Mahlaule also thanked parents and the school governing body for their support.

Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality Mayor Merriam Malatji adopted the school a few years back, placing it under her wing and offering support whenever possible.

More results and photos will be published in next week’s Phalaborwa Herald.
