Young Phalaborwa swimmers end season on a high note
Leander le Roux and Izeldi van Niekerk ended the season on a high, sweeping medals at the Limpopo Level 1 swimming finals.
PHALABORWA – Two local swimmers from Phalaborwa Primary School (Red School) ended the season on a high note with outstanding performances at the Swimming South Africa Limpopo level 1 finals held at Hoërskool Piet Potgieter over the weekend.
Leander le Roux dominated in the boys u/13, winning five gold medals.
He claimed top honours in the 50m butterfly (45.54), 50m backstroke (46.27), 50m breaststroke (49.38), 50m freestyle (36.65) and 100m freestyle (1:21.04).

Izeldi van Niekerk also impressed in the girls u/12, securing four gold medals and one silver.
She finished second in the 50m butterfly in a time of 44.29. She won gold in the 50m backstroke (43.57), 100m backstroke (1:34.88), 50m freestyle (35.36), and 100m freestyle (1:21.00).
Le Roux is a member of the Shamu Swimming Club and is coached by Leane Schaap, while Van Niekerk trains with Dolphins Aquatics Club under coach Sune Smit.
Both swimmers began their swimming journeys at the age of six and have steadily developed into top performers.
Le Roux told the Herald he was pleased to have won all his races and to have improved his times.
His mother, Liezel, said the family is proud of his achievements and delighted that he ended the season on such a strong note.
Van Niekerk said she was happy with her performance and is looking forward to the next club competition.
Her mom, Zelda, said they are proud of her accomplishments and have watched her give her best effort throughout the year.
