Limpopo flooding closes R524 and D447

Flood damage has closed the R524 near Matiyani and the D447 in Mopani, with motorists in Limpopo urged to use alternative routes.

LIMPOPO – The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety is advising motorists to remain cautious following flood-related damage in the Vhembe and Mopani Districts.

R524

In the Vhembe District, the R524 near Matiyani has been closed due to a damaged bridge, located approximately 8km from the Kruger National Park gate.

Motorists are urged to make use of alternative routes.

D447

In the Mopani District, the D447 road between Modjadjiskloof and Mooketsi is also closed.

A minibus taxi’s rear wheels are trapped in a collapsed portion of the D447 caused by flooding.

An alternative route is available via the R36 through Politsi.

Authorities are currently assessing the extent of the damage and will provide further updates.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution at all times, particularly in wet weather conditions.
