Video shows Easter traffic on N1 as motorists drive in oncoming lane

A video shows motorists driving in the oncoming lane near Kranskop, creating a dangerous three-lane situation and raising safety concerns.

LIMPOPO – A video shared by TrafficSA on X shows motorists driving in the oncoming lane, creating a dangerous situation for other road users.

With no police or traffic control visible in the video, drivers appear to be turning a two-lane road into a three-lane stream of traffic during the busy Easter travel period.

The footage shows a line of vehicles on the N1 South overtaking in the opposite lane near Kranskop, forcing oncoming traffic to the edge of the road while creating a hazardous situation for all road users.

The incident comes as traffic volumes increase across major routes, with thousands of travellers heading home following the Easter weekend.

Authorities have repeatedly warned motorists against reckless behaviour, particularly illegal overtaking, which significantly increases the risk of head-on collisions.

Traffic officials have urged drivers to remain patient, obey road markings, and avoid taking unnecessary risks, even in heavy congestion.
