Humble beginnings in Ga-Maphalle village

Hailing from Ga-Maphalle village in Bolobedu, Baloyi is not only a gifted writer but also a dedicated Mathematics and Science educator.

Writing and reciting poetry in both Sepedi and English, he uses his voice to inspire, heal, and educate.

His latest work shines a spotlight on the often-unspoken realities of growing up without a father, a reality that resonates with many South Africans.

A personal story of healing and awareness

Baloyi explains that the inspiration behind the book was driven by a desire to raise awareness about what he describes as a “pandemic” affecting many communities.

“This story is close to my heart,” he said.

“Sharing it is not only about healing my own wounds but also helping others heal from things they struggle to speak about.”

Written through emotional struggle

The book is rooted in Baloyi’s own life experiences, making it both authentic and relatable.

He began writing it during his final year at university, often working in his spare time despite the emotional toll it took on him.

“Sometimes I wrote while crying, and there were moments I thought I would never finish,” he admits.

Challenging stereotypes and statistics

Through his writing, Baloyi challenges the narrative that children raised in single-parent households are destined for failure.

While acknowledging statistics that suggest otherwise, he stands as living proof that success is still possible.

“Being raised by a single parent doesn’t mean you won’t succeed,” he emphasises.

Themes of resilience and self-growth

The book also explores the realities faced by those who grow up without a father figure, including early independence, resilience, and the need to self-teach important life skills such as emotional control, discipline, and decision-making.

Positive reader response and future plans

Since its release, The Journey of a Fatherless Child has received a positive response, with readers praising its honesty and emotional depth.

Many have found comfort in its message, realising they are not alone in their struggles.

Baloyi credits his family and friends for their moral support during the writing process, even though they could not fully ease his challenges.

Looking ahead, he plans to publish more self-help books aimed at empowering and uplifting others.

A voice for the voiceless

With his debut, Ntsako Baloyi is not only telling his story, he is also giving a voice to many who have long remained silent.
