2 bodies found near Crooks Corner in Kruger National Park

Police are investigating after two bodies were discovered near Crooks Corner in the Kruger National Park on Friday, May 22.

LIMPOPO – Two bodies were discovered in the Kruger National Park (KNP) near Crooks Corner at the confluence of the Levubu and Limpopo rivers in the Masisi policing area on Friday, May 22.

According to Limpopo police, a 71-year-old man and a woman whose identity is still being confirmed reportedly arrived at one of the camps in the KNP on Sunday, May 17, in a green Ford Ranger double cab.

Police said the pair were last seen on Wednesday morning, May 20, at the Pafuri picnic site. A search operation was launched after they failed to return.

Tourists reportedly discovered two bodies floating near Crooks Corner on Friday afternoon and alerted authorities.

Members of Saps, Emergency Medical Services, Sanparks and the Border Management Authority responded to the scene.

Preliminary investigations indicate the male victim sustained stab wounds to the upper body, while the female victim also suffered severe upper-body injuries allegedly caused by a sharp object.

The vehicle believed to have been used by the victims is missing.

Police have opened cases of murder and hijacking. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.

Limpopo provincial commissioner Lt Gen Thembi Hadebe has assigned a provincial team of experienced investigators to the case.

Police are continuing to work with Sanparks as investigations continue.
