Odas Ngobeni sworn in as new Greater Tzaneen mayor
Odas Ngobeni was sworn in as Greater Tzaneen mayor after councillors adopted a no-confidence motion against former mayor Gerson Molapisane.
TZANEEN – Odas Ngobeni was sworn in as the new mayor of the Greater Tzaneen Municipality on Monday morning during a special council sitting.
This follows a motion of no confidence tabled against former mayor Gerson Molapisane. The motion was moved and seconded before council and adopted without division, as no objections were raised by councillors present.

Following the adoption of the motion, Molapisane was removed from his positions as mayor and member of the executive committee.
Ngobeni took the oath of office before Magistrate Conny Mphaho and pledged to perform his duties as mayor to the best of his ability.

After being sworn in, Ngobeni shook hands with Molapisane before the council sitting was adjourned.

Outside the municipal offices, ANC supporters gathered in large numbers, singing struggle songs and celebrating Ngobeni’s appointment as the new mayor.
