Women benefit from Mopani school care programme

Women in Mopani gain valuable work experience and confidence through a school care and infrastructure improvement initiative.

LIMPOPO – A school infrastructure care project in the Mopani District is making a positive impact in local communities by empowering women through school renovation and painting initiatives aimed at improving learning environments.

School renovation improves learning environments

The project, which focuses on restoring and beautifying schools, has provided women with valuable work experience, practical skills, and opportunities for personal development while contributing to community upliftment.

Participants gain skills and work experience

Participants involved in the initiative say the programme has changed their lives by equipping them with skills that can open doors for future employment opportunities and improve their confidence.

Ntshovelo Makhubele, one of the women participating in the project, said being part of the school renovation initiative has helped her gain important workplace experience while developing essential life skills.

“Through this project, I learn teamwork, communication, responsibility, and how to work in a professional environment,” she said.

Makhubele added that the project has also allowed her to make a meaningful contribution to schools and communities by helping create better spaces for learners.

“I believe this project is changing my life because it helps me grow personally and professionally. The experience and skills I gain open doors for future employment opportunities and help me build a better future for myself and my family,” she explained.

Initiative boosts confidence and personal growth

Another participant, Rirhandzu Millicent Mbumbi, described the project as both empowering and inspiring.

Mbumbi said the school painting initiative has helped her grow socially and personally while teaching her the importance of teamwork, leadership, and community service.

“Painting my local school brings positive change because it creates a clean, beautiful, and welcoming environment for learners, teachers, and visitors,” she said.

She added that participating in the project has given her a sense of pride, knowing she is helping improve schools where children learn every day.

According to Mbumbi, the initiative has also encouraged community members to take better care of public spaces and work together toward building stronger communities.

Community benefits from upgraded school facilities

Beyond improving school infrastructure, the project highlights the growing role of community-driven initiatives in addressing unemployment and empowering women in rural areas.

The renovation work not only enhances the appearance of schools but also creates safer and more welcoming environments that support teaching and learning.

Community members have praised the initiative for combining infrastructure development with skills training and social empowerment, particularly for women seeking opportunities to improve their livelihoods.

Programme supports job creation and development

As the project continues across schools in Mopani, participants say they hope it will inspire even more community-based programmes that focus on skills development, job creation, and community improvement while empowering women to become active contributors to local development.
