ActionSA gains political heavyweights in Mopani

ActionSA has welcomed a former Greater Letaba mayor and other former ANC leaders, saying they have useful inside information.

LIMPOPO – ActionSA has announced the defection of several prominent political figures from the ANC and other political parties in what the party describes as a major political realignment ahead of the 2026 Local Government Elections.

The announcement was made during a gathering where ActionSA welcomed former leaders from the ANC, uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK Party), EFF, Build One South Africa (BOSA), African Mayibuye Movement (AMM), and other political formations into its ranks.

Who has joined

Among those joining the party are:

  • A former mayor of Greater Letaba Municipality
  • Former councillors
  • A former infrastructure Exco member

All resigned from the ANC.

According to ActionSA, the move reflects growing dissatisfaction with governance failures, poor service delivery, deteriorating infrastructure, and political instability in municipalities across Limpopo.

ActionSA deputy president Mbahare Kekana said the party had focused on recruiting influential leaders with governance experience rather than individual members.

“Today, we have managed to recruit around nine political parties under ActionSA,” Kekana said. “We are happy today that Mopani is coming, and it’s coming fine.”

ActionSA aims to govern Mopani

Kekana told supporters that ActionSA’s primary goal is to become a governing force in municipalities across the Mopani District.

“There must not be a government without ActionSA in Mopani, Greater Giyani, Ba-Phalaborwa, Maruleng and Greater Letaba,” he said.

He urged party members to focus solely on winning the upcoming elections and delivering quality service to communities.

“Our ideology is simple: service delivery,” he said. “Leaders must understand that we are 80% service delivery and 20% politics.”

Former ANC leaders know ‘where the money disappears’

ActionSA provincial chairperson Victor Mothemela described the arrival of former ANC leaders as a significant boost for the party.

“These are people who know our municipalities from the inside. They know where the pipes are broken, where tenders are manipulated, and where the money disappears,” said Mothemela.

He challenged the new members to return to their communities and establish party branches ahead of the elections.

Other issues raised

The event also highlighted broader political and social issues, including gender-based violence, governance accountability, and illegal immigration.

Mothemela said ActionSA would continue advocating for stronger border control and prioritising economic opportunities for South Africans.

What the new leaders bring

ActionSA said the incoming leaders bring extensive experience in municipal administration and community leadership, which the party believes will strengthen its position in Limpopo ahead of the elections.

The party further stated that it aims to build municipalities focused on accountability, infrastructure development, clean governance, and improved service delivery.
