Police seize R3m worth of dagga near Hoedspruit

Police seized dagga worth an estimated R3 million and arrested six suspects during an intelligence-led operation near Hoedspruit.

HOEDSPRUIT Six suspects, aged between 18 and 37, have been arrested after police seized dagga with an estimated street value of R3 million during a crime prevention operation near Hoedspruit on Wednesday evening, June 17.

According to police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, members of Hoedspruit SAPS, working alongside Farm Watch members, acted on intelligence regarding the transportation of illicit substances in the area.

The operation was conducted along the R531 between Klaserie and Snake Park, where officers intercepted three vehicles travelling towards Tzaneen.

A search of the vehicles led to the discovery of a large quantity of dagga, including 14 large bags and 20 smaller bags. The drugs were confiscated, and the three vehicles used in the commission of the crime were seized for further investigation.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Hoedspruit Magistrate’s Court soon.

Police investigations are continuing.
