49-year-old arrested in Letsitele rape investigation

Concerns raised by a family member led to a police investigation that unfolded in a nearby village.

TZANEEN – Police in the Mopani District have arrested a 49-year-old man in connection with a serious sexual offence case involving a 17-year-old boy in the Letsitele area.

According to police, the matter was reported on Sunday (June 21) after concerns were raised about the teenager’s wellbeing. The victim was subsequently taken for medical examination, and a criminal case was opened.

Police investigations led to the arrest of a suspect at Mavele Village on Monday.

The case is being investigated by the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit in Tzaneen.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Nkowankowa Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday (June 23) where he is expected to face a charge of rape.

Police investigations remain ongoing.
