Maruleng municipality warns of fake job offers

The Maruleng Local Municipality is urging job seekers to check every advert against its website and report offers to the police, as applicants never pay to apply.

HOEDSPRUIT – Job seekers in Maruleng are being warned about a man who allegedly poses as a municipal recruiter and asks for money in exchange for traffic officer jobs.

Scammer claims to recruit on council’s behalf

Maruleng Local Municipality said the man identifies himself as ‘Mr Nkuna’ and claims to be recruiting traffic officers on its behalf. He allegedly approaches job seekers, promises them work and then asks them to pay money into a bank account.

The municipality said it has no official by that name in its Human Resources Department.

No phone interviews and no fees

It also said it does not interview candidates by phone or on social media, and that applicants never have to pay anything to apply or to be considered for a job.

Applications are screened and shortlisted against the requirements in the advertised post.

Check vacancies before you respond

All official vacancies are published on the municipality’s website. Job seekers are urged to check any job advert against that page and not to pay anyone who promises them municipal employment.

Anyone who comes across a suspicious recruitment offer should report it to the police.
