Mpheni only a point ahead

A 1-0 defeat by Mpheni Home Defenders FC on Saturday against Vondwe Xi Bullets FC has put tremendous pressure on Mpheni who are currently in the lead in the ABC Motsepe Stream-A league.

The game was played at Tshifudi Stadium in Vhembe. While Mpheni Home Defenders is widely feared in the league, the loss has rattled their cage as it has brought Giyani Happy Boys, who have trailed them with 20 points, too close for comfort with only one point behind after eight matches played in the league.

This comes at a time when the Giyani Happy Boys is hungry for success after poor performances that saw them knocked out early in the Zama-zama tournament last year. They disappointed supporters who had hoped they would reach the finals in the Zama-Zama tournament on December 31 at Homu village. The Happy Boys will be looking to consolidate and win something in order to redeem themselves, or more so, to reclaim the number-one spot in the league which was snatched away from them by Mpheni Home Defenders in November last year.

This is why Mpheni Home Defenders have a lot to worry about as far as keeping their current position is concerned. They have to ensure they win their next game, or pray that Giyani Happy Boys lose their game, or else they might relinquish their current position in the league. Meanwhile, Vondwe Xi Bullets has little or nothing to gain after the Saturday’s win against Mpheni Home Defenders since they are already in a position that one might call ‘out of race position’ in terms of league points.

With just 12 points out of nine games, they are far behind compared to the 20 and 21 points already earned by Giyani Happy Boys FC and Mpheni Home Defenders FC with only eight games already played.
