Lammy is the Sportsmen of The Year

Lammy Mathye from Namakgale Police Station has been named Sportsman of the Year for people living with disabilities at the SAPS National Excellence Awards.

The event took place at the Ranch Hotel in Polokwane on Saturday, January 28. Mathye (44) walked away with a cash prize, a grocery voucher and electronic gadgets.
He told the Herald that he is over the moon with the win and that he dedicates the award to his wife, Nyeleti Mathye, who has always supported him. “I feel honoured to have been recognised by my employer. This motivates me to work and train even harder than before,” he said.

The prestigious event was attended by the minister of police, Bheki Cele, and the national police commissioner, Fannie Masemola, among other dignitaries.
Mathye participates in cycling, javelin, discus and shotput. In 2003 Mathye was involved in a car accident which left him paralysed from the waist down.
