Historic double win as HSA earns promotion

Hoedspruit Sports Academy earns promotion, while young Tanya Prinsloo stuns at Limpopo Cricket Awards with two top honours in the boys’ division.

HOEDSPRUIT – The 2023/24 Limpopo Cricket Awards gala proved to be a night of celebration for Hoedspruit Sports Academy (HSA), which walked away with some of the most prestigious honours in provincial cricket.

The event, held on the evening of July 12, brought together the best players, coaches, and cricketing minds from across the province to recognise outstanding performances over the past season.

HSA’s crowning achievement was winning the Limpopo Promotional League, a major milestone that now sees the academy promoted to the Premier League.

The victory is not only a testament to the team’s hard work and determination throughout the season but also signals the growing impact of the academy in shaping the future of cricket in the region.

“This promotion is the result of years of commitment, planning, and belief in our young athletes,” said Mickey Buyst of HSA. “Our players have shown what’s possible when passion meets preparation.”

But the evening’s most heartwarming and headline-worthy moments belonged to Tanya Prinsloo, a young cricketer from HSA who made history with her exceptional performances.

Tanya was named u/13 boys club cricket bowler of the year, having taken an impressive 13 wickets in just five matches, a performance that stunned coaches and selectors alike.

In recognition of her consistent excellence across all areas of the game, Tanya was also awarded the u/13 boys club cricket player of the year title, securing a rare and significant double win.

“We are incredibly proud of Tanya,” Buyst told the Herald. “She embodies everything we stand for: talent, dedication, discipline, and humility. Her achievements this season have been extraordinary, and we believe she’s only just getting started.”

Tanya’s success is especially notable because she competed and excelled in the boys’ division, showcasing her skill and resilience in what many would consider a challenging environment.

As the academy prepares for the upcoming Premier League, its players are motivated more than ever to raise their game and represent Hoedspruit with pride.

“We are entering a new chapter, and it’s filled with exciting challenges,” he added. “But with our team spirit, dedicated coaches, and incredible young talent, we are ready to make our mark.”
