Young Tzaneen golfer (12) wins junior golf title

Twelve-year-old Muhluri Sedibe clinched the Polokwane Junior Golf girls u/13 title, marking another milestone in her rising golf career.

LIMPOPO –  Muhluri Sedibe (12) from Tzaneen is the new Polokwane Junior Golf Champ in the girls u/13 category.

She won the prestigious title with 126 points on Saturday, December 6 at Polokwane Golf Club. Muhluri told the Herald that the win feels great and she worked hard to earn the title. “Although the day was a bit windy, it was an easy play for,” she said.

Recently, she represented Limpopo at the Junior National Championships at Coro Creek Golf Estate in Modimolle. She also represented Tzaneen Primary School, and was the only player from the Mopani district to play in the Inter-Provincial Primary Schools Golf Tournament at Magalies Park Country Club, recently.

She finished 22 out of 105 girls who competed from across the country. Her dad, Nathi, says they are happy with what she has achieved at the inter-provincial tournament, seeing that this was her first time competing, and he believes next year she will do even better.

Muhluri was introduced to the sport at the age of five by her dad, who she calls her biggest motivator. Her dream is to be the number one female golfer in the world someday.

Her dad says seeing her, the young girl he taught how to play golf, shine on the golf course, makes him proud.

They practice four times a week and love their dad-and-daughter alone time on the course.

Sedibe encourages more young girls and parents to get involved in the sport.

“People should know that golf is not a sport for the elite only, but for everyone. Yes, it is a bit expensive, but there are other affordable ways of participating, and there is a lot of support from the golfing community,” he said.
