Tzaneen swimming clubs excel at level 2 championships

Swimmers from Shamu Swimming Club who swam qualifying times to participate in Gauteng this weekend had fantastic drops in times in the heats in the mornings and most made finals in the evening.

To make a final you have to have swum a top 10 time in the heats in the morning.

Due to constraints as a result of Covid-19, the gala was split into 2 venues – the 12 years and younger participated at Delville in Germiston and the 13 years and older swam in Pretoria The following swimmers all swam finals during the weekend:

Aeden Anderson (12), Ethan Schmidt (10), Marny du Plessis (10), Yulinke Haynes (10), Jonea Pretorius (11), Amaris Nortje (15), Mignon Smit (13), and Juan Coetzee (15).

We managed to secure a load of medals and Shamu ended 8th overall of the 47 clubs that participated. Our boy’s team was ranked 11th and our girl’s team 9th.

Medalists were: Ethan Schmidt 1 gold and 1 bronze; Aeden Anderson 1 gold and 3 silver; Jonea Pretorius 2 gold and 2 bronze; Juan Coetzee 1 gold and 1 bronze and Amaris Nortjé 1 bronze medal.

Emelda Tintswalo Shipalana
