Riders enjoy Gravelotte Gravel Grinder race

The Gravelotte Gravel Grinder took place on November 4 with more than 240 mountain bikers and 40 trail runners taking on the different routes.

The challenging 130km MTB race saw 18 brave riders finish the race. Alan Gordon was the first to cross the finish line. He completed the race in 4:13:13. John Menster took second place overall and won the master men’s division. Menster crossed the finish line split seconds before Walt Katzke with 4:35:59 on the clock. Shani Rudder was the first woman to cross the finish line in the 130km race. She competed in the elite division and finished the race in 4:47:43.

Gordon Noel took first place overall in the 60km race. He cycled the route in 1:00:58. Bill Noel took second place overall and Rick Coetzee took third place overall. Ashley van Schalkwyk was the first woman to cross the finish line, completing the race in 2:09:24. Linda de Nysschen took second place in the women’s division and Elvy Canadas took third place. Local Phalaborwa mountain bike riders, welcome Khoza and Lukas Malatji, took on the 60km challenge in Gravelotte.

Khoza completed the race in 3:10:53 taking 41st place. In the 35km race, Marco Nortjé took first place with a time of 1:18:49. Anton Bam was the second rider to cross the finish line with Christo du Plessis in third place. Elané Visser, a sub-junior rider took the win in the women’s division with a time of 1:32:23. Ilana Lubbe, sub-junior, took second place and Dorothy Rood, veteran, took the third place.

Arnich van Wyngaardt was the first rider to cross the finish line in the 15km race with Hannes Booyens in second place. Rayne Canadas took third place overall and first place in the sprogs’ division. Nita Scholtz took first place in the women’s division and Toni Lacey took second place. Toni Lacey took third place in the 15km cycle. Chantal Tattersall was the overall winner of the 10km trail run with a time of 52:16. Shelly Swarts was second overall, and Shana Chauke took third place overall. Bradley Pelser won the men’s race with a time of 1:05:12. Michelle Lottering took first place in the 5km trail run with a time of 22:43. Steve Loimer won the men’s division taking second place overall.
