TZANEEN – Tzaneen Ringball Club is celebrating an exceptional performance after 30 of its players represented Limpopo at the South African National Ringball Tournament, held in Pretoria from July 12-18.

The week-long tournament saw provincial teams from across South Africa compete in a demanding schedule, with players often taking to the court for one or two matches each day.

Despite the tough competition, Tzaneen’s athletes delivered outstanding performances, earning medals across several age groups and showcasing the depth of talent within the local club.

U/11 girls complete flawless campaign

One of the tournament’s highlights came from the Limpopo u/11 girls’ team, made up entirely of players from Tzaneen Ringball Club.

The team produced a flawless campaign, finishing at the top of their log to claim the gold medal in their division.

U/13 boys edge rivals for gold

The u/13 boys also enjoyed a memorable tournament.

After a fiercely contested league, the gold medal was decided on points difference, with Limpopo edging out their closest rivals by just two points to secure the championship title.

Mixed results across other divisions

The u/15 girls competed in a highly competitive division and finished fifth overall after a determined effort throughout the tournament.

In the u/18 boys’ division, the team impressed with consistent performances and fought their way to the final stages of the competition. Although they narrowly missed out on the title, they returned home with well-deserved silver medals.

The u/23 women’s team continued Limpopo’s success by winning gold in their division, while the u/23 men’s team finished fourth overall after a strong showing against quality opposition.

16 players receive SA colours

Several Tzaneen Ringball Club players also earned South African colours, with 16 of the club’s 30 representatives selected to receive SA colours following their performances at the tournament.

Among those selected were Karli Smit, Juané Vosloo and Leanne du Toit (u/13 girls); Zander Bornman, John Mabunda, Zijn van Zyl and Barto Smit (u/13 boys); Lemukani Mabunda (u/15 girls); MJ Perold (u/15 boys); Ansuretha Perold (u/18 girls); Stefan Pretorius (u/18 boys); Zanè Hedin (u/23 women); Devinn van der Westhuizen (u/23 men); Morné Landsberg and Le Renzo Venter (senior men); and Johan Pretorius (masters men).

A memorable year for the club

The club manager, Morné Landsberg, said he was incredibly proud of all 30 athletes who represented Limpopo with distinction, adding that the medals, provincial success and the impressive number of players receiving South African colours made it a memorable year for Tzaneen Ringball Club.
