Hundreds celebrate Disability Day

Hundreds of people living with disabilities from all over Greater Letaba gathered at Sekgopo for a Disability Day celebration on Thursday.

Speaking at the event, the Mayor of Greater Letaba Municipality, Peter Matlou said the municipality is committed to addressing the plight of people living with disabilities. He said people with disabilities have capabilities and talents that can help move their area forward.

“As the municipality we commit ourselves to do everything necessary, working with people with disabilities to create a conducive environment for them to fulfill their dreams,” said Matlou.

He appealed to families with disabled people not to hide them in their homes. He said people with disabilities must be supported to reach their full potential.

He said that they are aware that accessing public facilities and transport is still a challenge for people living with disabilities and that the government is working on solving the problem.
