TZANEEN: Extravaganza to be judge by dance master

On August 8, the Letaba show will be hosting the Dance Extravaganza competition which will be judged by none other than the acclaimed Pinto Ferreira.

Following a rewarding international dance career, dancing in esteemed theatres such as Le Lido in Paris, France, Pinto returned to South Africa to lecture at the Pretoria Technicon Dance Department (now TUT).

He then founds Tom Arts College after which he serves as head of the dance departments of no less than four performing arts colleges.

Pinto received an FNB Vita Special Award for choreography for a work in which all the dancers have cerebral palsy. He also addressed international dance conferences in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Rome, Italy.

Pinto is qualified in the arts, philosophy and psychology, having studied at Pretoria Technicon, Unisa, Graduate Academy of South Africa and the Commonwealth Open University in the UK (where he obtains a Ph.D. in Performing Arts). Pinto has worked extensively in the theatre industry as performer, choreographer, director and producer.

He has for ten years been a dance and theatre critic for the Star and Pretoria News newspapers in which he also has his own column. He also writes for SA Theatre Magazine. He is the founder and director of DanceEd International and lectures at the Tshwane University of Technology Dance Department. In 2018 Pinto establishes the Lumen Performance Company and is presently working on its first production, I see you, performed later this year at the Johannesburg Theatre. Pinto is an experienced dance adjudicator, having judged both nationally and internationally.

Catch him at the Letaba Show which will be taking place at the Tzaneen Showgrounds from 7 to 9 August. For more information visit the Letaba Show website at letabashow.co.za
