VIDEO: September highlights National Arbor Week, reminds us of the importance of trees

The first week of September marked National Arbor Week, an initiative created to raise awareness about the significance of trees.

National Arbor Week was celebrated on from 1 to 7 September this year. The initiative is run by the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) and encourages people to learn more about the importance of indigenous trees.

The initiative also mobilises people to plant new trees and emphasises how significant they are in ensuring life on earth as well as sustainable living.

The government, private sector and communities are encouraged to ‘go green’ and emphasis is placed on greening townships and informal settlements, which were left out of spatial planning and parks and recreation plans in the past.
