Councillor in court

ANC Councillor Petrus Mduduzi Shongwe (35), from Extension 8 in Mhluzi, appeared in the Middelburg Magistrate's Court on a charge of assault.

Shongwe faces the charge after he allegedly threatened to kill DA Councillor San-Mari Wait.

In an interesting turn of events, Shongwe refused legal representation and insisted that he will conduct his own defense.

Presiding Officer Marlé Kotze noted that the accused is adamant to conduct his own defense.

Shongwe was released on warning and will appear in court again in October.
