23 arrested for drunken driving
Traffic and police officials arrested 23 people for drunken driving over the past weekend.
Capt. Khanyisile Zwane, police spokesperson, said that the high number of arrests are “worrying”.
All people arrested were released on R1 500 bail and had their fingerprints taken and blood samples sent away to a lab for testing. They will be summoned to appear in court as soon as lab results are available.
Capt. Zwane warned that police and traffic officials will be focusing on drunk drivers over the Easter weekend and the rest of the holiday.
“If you are arrested over the long weekend, you will have to spend some time in jail before appearing in court,” she warned. She pleaded with residents to abstain from drinking and driving.
