Police officer ‘aided’ in escape

A police officer faced a criminal charge for not doing his job properly and thus aiding a suspect in a criminal case to escape.

It is alleged that police officer Toy Lucas Ngomane (42) who lives in Extension 5 in Mhluzi, left Themba Nkambule handcuffed to a hospital bed instead of physically guarding him, resulting in his escape.

Ngomane faced a charge of aiding to escape from lawful custody for the incident that allegedly took place in April 2013.

Court records show that the matter was removed from the roll. It is unclear why.
