Man in court for rape, incest

A 38-year-old man from Chromeville appeared in court on charges of rape and incest.

The man, who cannot be identified in order to protect the victim, is accused of raping a 16-year-old relative three times on 13 and 14 February.

He was also charged with three counts of incest for each of the alleged rapes.

The accused stated that he has a previous conviction of robbery with aggravating circumstances in 2005 for which he received a 15 year imprisonment sentence as well as a pending case of theft of a motor vehicle for which he is currently out on bail.

Bail was denied in this matter and the case was postponed until 10 June for a regional court decision.
