Hijack fail

A woman claims she was hijacked on the Elandslaagte dirtroad on Wednesday.

According to information received from capt. Khanyisile Zwane, police spokesperson, Dora Mashiloane (30) alleged that she was driving on the Elandslaagte dirt road when she saw two unknown African males barricading the road.

She stopped the vehicle and the men allegedly ordered her out of the car before they got in and drove off. Mrs Mashiloane managed to flag down a passing car.

They drove in the direction the robbers drove off in and discovered the car, lying on its side next to the road less than a kilometre from where the supposed hijack took place.

Eyewitnesses say that the woman, who said that she was underway to Dennilton, was very traumatised. A farmer’s wife tried to calm her with a can of Coke.

Capt. Zwane said that police are investigating a charge of robbery with aggravating circumstances. Hijacking charges only apply to cars who are still idling.

She said that police expect to ad more charges and make an arrest soon.
