Update: Card fraud suspect identified
The man who was arrested three weeks ago at the corner of Koets and Oos Street following a stand-off with Police, has finally been identified as Curvin Mccarthy, according to his ID Book and personal information obtained from a security company, who has been investigating the suspect for almost two years.
Police identified him as “Kelvin Maccarthy” and according to previous cases he was known as Garvin Makati.
It has also come to light that Mccarthy has been the accused in several previous cases related to card fraud and possession of stolen cards which he used to pay for alcohol and fuel.
In a case involving R414 000 worth of fuel stolen from Midwit Petrol, Mccarthy was released following the withdrawal of charges without sufficient reason, according to Lourens du Plessis of the Guardian Group.
He said that Mccarthy was investigated last year and an overwhelming amount of evidence was compiled against him, together with photos and statements, and handed over to the Police.
