A policeman for one day
Siyabonga Masina's dream to be a policeman was fulfilled in Middelburg with the Reach for A Dream programme.
Andries du Preez, the new ambassador and volunteer for Reach For a Dream, gladly took on Mpumalanga and had his very first dream to fulfil with the ten year old Siyabonga (from Amersfoort).
Siyabonga has been diagnosed with early Bronchiectasis and is very ill.
Like any other 10 year old Siyabonga has dreams and his dream is to become a policeman and have a bicycle and not to forget a BlackBerry cell phone.
The day started off with a visit to the police station in Middelburg, where he was treated with different excursions and expeditions. Siyabonga and his mother, Thokozile, were also invited by the friendly staff of the Middelburg Mall, where he was showed the very interesting control room and visited Bargain Books where he was given books of his favourite animals (lions).
MTN Middelburg Mall surprised Siyabonga with a brand new BlackBerry.
Siyabonga was taken to Wimpy at Middelburg Mall (Siyabonga’s favourite restaurant) where he got the chance to make his very own milkshake. Then his ultimate dream came true…. a brand new, sparkly bicycle was handed to him by Shanduka Coal.
Andries would like to thank “all the dreammakers” who made the day special to Siyabonga.
At “Reach for A Dream” they strive to fulfil the dreams of children with life threatening illnesses.

• Bronchiectasis is a condition in which damage to the airways causes them to widen and become flabby and scarred. The airways are tubes that carry air in and out of your lungs.
Bronchiectasis often is caused by an infection or other condition that injures the walls of the airways or prevents the airways from clearing mucus. Mucus helps remove inhaled dust, bacteria, and other small particles from the airways.
In bronchiectasis, your airways slowly lose their ability to clear out mucus.
The mucus builds up, and bacteria begin to grow. This leads to repeated, serious lung infections.
Each infection causes more damage to the airways. Over time, the airways can not properly move air in and out of the lungs. As a result, the body’s vital organs might not get enough oxygen.
