Assault for ‘threatening’ to kill

Councillor Petrus Mduduzi Shongwe (35) who resides in Extension 8 in Mhluzi, was formally charged and appeared in the Middelburg Magistrate's Court on a charge of assault this week.

It is alleged that Shongwe threatened to kill Cllr San-Mari Wait whilst they were at the Steve Tshwete Municipality in March this year.

The Middelburg Observer reported about the heated Portfolio meeting that turned nasty when ANC Cllr Shongwe clashed with DA Cllr Wait. At that stage no one was formally charged.

Shongwe was released on warning and will appear in court again at the end of the month.
