Video: Middelburg outshines other towns
As one of the greenest, cleanest and most efficiently run municipalities in the country, Middelburg still has almost daily service delivery challenges but residents have a lot to be thankful for.
Over and above all the national and provincial awards that are easily scooped on a very regular basis, the closeness of a tight-knit community cannot be overlooked as it is the people of this town that contribute in achieving various levels of public satisfaction and community upliftment.
We cannot ignore that when it comes to repairs and replacements of traffic lights, street lights, burst pipes, refuse collection and pothole repairs, the Steve Tshwete municipality is often on top of their game.
How many other towns can compare? Certainly not our closest neighbour – eMalahleni.
There’s hardly a resident in town who cannot admit that they haven’t witnessed municipal workers working over weekends, holidays and after hours. This determination and attitude is seldom found anywhere in the country and the closest contenders are all locations situated in the Western Cape.
But people still complain – such is human nature. It’s easy to find fault when you are used to perfection. And if you’ve lived in Middelburg all your life then you really have little or no idea of what’s going on in other towns.
There’s a difference between bringing an issue to the attention of the municipality and unnecessarily raging on about a petty subject that can be much more efficiently handled.
Aside from municipal services, it’s easy to find a reason to value this community from inspiring organisations who heartlessly serve our town and it’s people and local icons who have achieved the unimaginable.
From the Old Age Homes and caregivers, to vegetable gardeners and sports development academies, children’s coaches and motivational individuals, Middelburg has produced some special human beings, and each and every one of them make this town the best place to stay.
Even popular Afrikaans TV Station KykNet has noticed this about Middelburg and well over a year since we were awarded the title of “Dorp van die Jaar” the channel still uses a promotional clip of the town as an advert.
At the end of the day we have much more to be thankful for than the few problems that occasionally trouble the community.
