Another power outage since yesterday is affecting hundreds of homes in Mineralia, Suid, Groenkol and Eastdene.

According to an SMS sent from the Steve Tshwete municipality, the electrical transformer in Verdoorn Street caught fire and was responded to by the fire brigade.

It was also stated that “Areas affected from that sub is without electricity. Restoration time not yet available”.

A resident who complained to the Middelburg Observer stated that they were without electricity for 25 hours – from 10:00 on Tuesday.

“The municipality is not answering their phones and we have no idea what’s going on,” a resident said.

When contacted, the municipality stated that repairs were completed and that several homes had their power restored.

“We are aware that some homes are still without power and we are working to resolve the problem”.
