Update: Accident claims seventh victim

One person has passed away in hospital after a horrific accident on the N4 on Wednesday 11 January. This rises the total death toll to seven.

Eyewitnesses say that a taxi, pulling a trailer, lost control and crashed in the oncoming lane on the N4 near the Alzu Petroport at around 14:20.

The occupants of the taxi were all flung out of the vehicle in the process and those that weren’t killed on impact, sustained serious injuries. Five patients had scull fractures and the rest bone fractures.

The victims are believed to be from Mozambique. None of them have been formally identified yet.
