Police in trouble due to ongoing brain drain of specialists
An ongoing brain drain in the Middelburg SAPS, poses a serious threat to both the force and the public.
Shoddy foresight regarding the filling of vacant and soon to be vacant posts, due to senior SAPS members going on pension, has placed the force in a real predicament.
Colonel Anton Crafford, a specialist forensic expert, left the force, and soon Colonel Faan Steenkamp, commander of the Hawks, will follow on his heels.

Colonel Johan Prinsloo, specialist fraud investigator, is lost to the SAPS as well as master hostage negotiator Wessie van der Westhuizen, and Cois Minaar who is a crime intelligence expert.

Fraud expert Ross Rossouw is also leaving the force alongside riot unit chief Eric Heyns and Colonel Wickus van Wyk, one of South Africa’s foremost fingerprint experts.
The announcement that MK-veterans and political police appointees, will soon be promoted, further bodes ill for an already bleeding SAPS.

The promotions will exclude bona fide police officers who will remain where they are ranked.
“Bad foresight and unfair promotions will not only harm the police, but the community dependent on the police force,” one of the leaving members told www.mobserver.co.za
