VIDEO – New Executive Mayor elected on Wednesday during special council sitting

Steve Tshwete Municipality's new Executive Mayor, Cllr Tsietsi Tolo, was elected during a special council sitting on Wednesday.

The DA nominated its own candidate, Cllr Morgan Bruiners of Nasaret, but lost the vote with 17 against 32 to the ANC.

All seven EFF councillors abstained from voting.

Mayor Tolo told www.mobserver.co.za that he wasn’t planning to effect drastic changes to Mayor Masina’s cabinet yet.

He said that he was open to advice from his predescessor on matters relating to the municipality but would enforce his own decidions as he sees fit.

An official inauguration of the newly elected mayor will take place within the next 100 days during which Mayor Tolo will also announce his plans for the municipality.
