Sangoma on murder charge

Four men accused of the murder of Mxolisi Shabalala (20) appearead in the Middelburg Magistrate Court.

Mojafela Dlamini (24), Nkosingiphile Khoza (24), Bhekinkosi Simeon Thabethe (34), and Sbusiso Thabethe (38) are facing charges of murder. It is alleged the men stabbed the deceased with a knife at the Iraq Taxi Rank.

According to the police report, the deceased was transported to the Middelburg Provincial Hospital by his friend but died on arrival. He had two stab wounds. It is not clear what led to the incident. The accused remain in police custody.

• One of the accused, Sibusiso Thabethe, a self-proclaimed sangoma, fooled police in 2014 into believing he drowned. Police launched a massive search and rescue operation. He was arrested for attempted murder, kidnapping and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, but was only charged for having an unlicensed firearm.
