Nigerian assassinated in front of house

A Nigerian national, residing in Koppie Street, was shot in front of his house.

A large group foreign nationals, gathered in front of the house where Doochukwu Lawrence Ozumba (44) was assasinated. His shoes and one of his teeth were still lying on the blood soaked grass where he was mowed down.

An unknown man arrived at the house where Mr Ozumba lived and asked for him by name. As soon as he saw Mr Ozumba, the hitman opened fire.
Mr Ozumba was hit in the face and chest by at least five bullets. The shooter disappeared.

Another man who lived with Mr Ozumba said that he had left the house and was shocked to find a pool of blood on the grass and pavement upon his return.
Mr Ozumba was rushed to hospital by a neighbour. He was later declared dead.
A bystander who did not give his name, said that there is no reason for anyone to kill a human being “like a bush animal.”

• Capt. Khanyisile Zwane, Middelburg Police Spokesperson, said that a murder docket has been opened and that police are currently investigating the matter.

• A Nigerian man was found dead in his house in Kanonkop a couple of years ago. Other Nigerian nationals in Middelburg accused the police of assaulting him before his death.
