VIDEO – Update: Weigh bridge a war zone after predawn shootout
The gang of robbers that were involved in the predawn shootout with police on the R555 led themselves into an ambush when they turned into the weigh bridge premises while trying to flee.
They shot at police with AK47 and R5 rifles and police returned fire killing three.
The bodies have been removed from the scene and forensics are busy gathering evidence.

The weigh bridge resembled a war zone with shell casings scattered everywhere. More casings were discovered later on, stretching from the train bridge to the stop street.
The R555 is still closed for traffic until police tie up their investigations.
