Traffic Officers to appear in court for corruption
Two Traffic Officers stationed at the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality will appear at the Middelburg Magistrates Court today, facing corruption charges.
Their appearance spirals from an incident that led to their arrest yesterday wherin they stopped a taxi and instead of giving the driver a fine after finding fault, they allegedly demanded cash to the amount of R200 which was then allegedly paid to the two offficers.
The taxi driver then reported the matter to the police and on approaching the two suspects at the same spot where the incident had taken place, the suspects allegedly handed the R200 back to the complainant in front of the police and were arrested.
